My 11 year old son and I are all about date nights. We try to do something intentional together at least once a week, whether it's catching a movie or trying out a new restaurant. Every few months, though, we like to do something a little more extravagant. This quarter, we spent a night in Washington D.C. to catch a Georgetown basketball game and check out the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.
It was a rainy afternoon and traffic was a bear, but we made it downtown just in time to catch tip off. We were lucky enough to get heavily discounted tickets through my son's school and had fantastic seats. It was an awesome game against TCU and Georgetown ended up losing by 1 point at the buzzer! Watch the video to see our reactions.
After the game we checked into the Marriott at Capitol Hill, which is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed at yet. I actually booked this hotel through the Southwest app (I have the Southwest credit card) and I got 5,000 Rapid Rewards points for no additional cost! We were ready to wind down once we were in the hotel, so we got some food to-go from the rooftop bar and restaurant, which was incredible, and ate in bed while we watched tv. We orderd the ramen and the sushi and mama got a margarita.
The next day was still rainy, but we made our way through the city to visit the Air & Space Museum. Tickets are required and need to be reserved ahead of time, but they're free of cost. The museum was really interesting and occupied us for about 2 hours. My son wants to be an astronomer when he grows up, so this was right up his alley.
We had an awesome time in D.C. and will definitely be back in the Spring to check out the monuments and the Spy Museum!
